Webinar by Alex Schillings at Brabant Association
"The search for the main and side issues. A lifelong occupation for a conductor ". That is the title of the webinar that Alex Schillings will be leading on Sunday 24 January at the invitation of the Brabant Association of Music Associations (BBM).
A score is full of information, directions and knowledge. Finding what is main or side issue is a lifelong quest. How do we make an informed choice about what is a main issue or an afterthought? Can an afterthought become a main issue and vice versa? Can a part of a score only consist of side issues? And is adding side issues unnecessary filling of the sound image? With only background information about the music style and composer we are far from there. Alex Schillings explains how conductors can shape this quest.
The webinar is primarily intended for conductors, but other interested parties are also welcome to join. Prior knowledge about reading a conductor score is desirable. The webinar will take place on Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The ZOOM platform is used. Tickets cost 9.95 euros plus service charges (total 11.15 euros) and are available through Eventbrite.
Alex Schillings was born in 1957 in Gulpen. He comes from a family where wind and classical music played a major role. It was therefore only natural that at the age of seven he started playing the trumpet with the local wind band. Alex completed his studies in trumpet and hafabra conducting at the conservatory in Maastricht in 1979 and 1980. In the meantime he had set his sights on conducting. Prominent wind orchestras from Limburg were under his direction. He has achieved just as many successes with many orchestras.
In addition to his work as a conductor, he teaches conducting at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle. Alex Schillings is also affiliated with the Bundes Akademie in Staufen (Southern Germany) and the Instituto Superiore Europeo Bandistico (Italy). He is also a much sought-after workshop leader for conductor courses. In addition, he often takes place in juries at various competitions.
Alex Schillings is a member of the Sonolize Advisory board.
From piano music to orchestral works.
The great thing about Sonolize is that composers know how to find each other to learn from each other. Tom Schipper, for example, helps the young composer Tae Hyung Ruisch to become even better. Read his blog on how.
