Dirk Wambacq (1963), started music lessons at the Asse Academy, Ternat department, where he obtained a government medal for clarinet and chamber music. He continued his studied at the Conservatory of Ghent and Brussels, where he won First Prizes in Solfège, Clarinet, Transposition, Chamber Music, Harmony. A First Prize in Counterpoint with greatest distinction, a First Prize in Fugue with great distinction and a Master's degree for Composition with distinction conclude his conservatory period.

Since 1982, Dirk has been associated with the Army-bands of the Belgian Forces and played clarinet at the "Great Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides", where he was concertmaster from 1999 to 2010.

As a composer, he wrote several works for wind and symphony orchestras, including the “Charter To Humanity”, “The Knight of Diana” (a challenging work for two horns and wind orchestra). For the Academy of Grimbergen he wrote the “Grimphonic GAG'S” for the symphonic orchestra.

For the 'Great Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides', Dirk Wambacq wrote “Reditus Pueri Improbi”, a rhapsody for Eb-clarinet and Symphonic Band and “Il Compimento Del Inizio” for Great Symphonic Band.

As a conductor he already achieved success with the Edelweisband from Erps-Kwerps, fanfare “De Ware Vrienden” from Grimbergen, the Concert Band "St-Jozef Moorsel" and the Concert Band "De Ysschegalm" from Huldenberg (Be). Since 2021, the “Feniksorkest” Grimbergen has been added.
He wrote numerous arrangements for these ensembles: adaptations of classical overtures, arrangements for concert band of contemporary hits, including from the repertoire of Belgian rock icon “Daan”, and many others…

Dirk Wambacq (1963), begon de muzieklessen aan de academie van Asse, afdeling Ternat, waar hij een regeringsmedaille voor klarinet en kamermuziek behaalde. Een Eerste Prijs Contrapunt met grootste onderscheiding, een Eerste Prijs Fuga met grote onderscheiding en een Master diploma voor Compositie met onderscheiding sluiten zijn conservatoriumperiode af.

Sinds 1982 was Dirk verbonden aan de Muziekkapellen van Defensie en speelde klarinet bij de Koninklijke Muziekkapel van de Gidsen waar hij van 1999 tot 2010 concertmeester was.  

Als componist schreef hij reeds verschillende werken voor o.a. harmonie- en symfonieorkest, waaronder het “Charter To Humanity”, “The Knight of Diana” (een uitdagend werk voor twee hoorns en Harmonieorkest). Voor de Academie van Grimbergen schreef hij voor het symfonisch orkest de “Grimfonische GAG’S”. 
Voor de Muziekkapel van de Gidsen schreef Dirk Wambacq “Reditus Pueri Improbi”, een rapsodie voor kleine klarinet en harmonieorkest en “Il Compimento Del Inizio” voor groot harmonieorkest
