Dutch composer and organ player Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck is amongst the most influential musicians from the Renaissance era. His composition 'Mein junges Leben Hat eind End' (My young life has an end) was originally composed for organ and has a number of variations based on a folk song from that time.
The arrangement of Werner Janssen for wind orchestra adds another attractive element: rhythm. Every part of the suite is a dance from the Renaissance. After the massive choral at the opening, you hear the well known Pavane, the noble Galop, the joyful Gigue (jig), the jaunty Gaillarde and the piece ends with the exciting Farandole.
