Song of the Nameless Forest

This piece depicts a peaceful forest untouched by human hands. It is divided into three parts (ABA) with a fast-slow-fast structure, requiring a delicate ensemble with flexible rhythm, expressive tone colors, and smooth phrase transitions.

Starting with a quiet introduction like the dawn, it transitions into a fast and lively 6/8 meter [A]. The main theme, centered around woodwind instruments, begins rhythmically and lightly, followed by a flowing secondary theme with rapid changes in color.

The music then builds up, leading to a dazzling light, and transitions to the middle section [B].Section [B] is in 3/4 meter but retains the tempo of [A]. It features a broad chorale starting with the brass instruments, gradually becoming more tranquil until silence falls. Amidst the lingering tones of [B], the recapitulation [A] begins with the theme played by the piccolo. The orchestration significantly changes from the beginning, reaching a climax with the secondary theme.

After a brief pause, the music regains its vigor, becoming more open, and then ends quietly in the resonance.

Composed in 2023. It received an Honorable Mention (2nd place) at the 13th Japan Wind and Percussion Music Society Composition Award.

Premiered at the same competition by the Hanazono Tokuei High School Wind Orchestra, conducted by Masato Sato.
