Song for choir a capella SAB
This is a choir piece on the Yiddish song Sholem (Peace). Sholem! is an anonymous Yiddish folksong. A translation of the first stanza:
Shabes (5x), (Sabbath (5x))
Zol zayn, Yidn, Shabes, (Jews, let it be Sabbath)
Shabes zol zayn (2x), (Let it be Sabbath (2x))
Shabes oyf der gantsen velt. (Sabbath on the whole world)
The second and third stanza are identical tot he first, except that “Shabes” is replaced by “Yontev” (festive day) and by “Sholem” (peace). Finally “Sabes”, “Yontev” and “Sholem” are bundled together:
Shabes zol zayn, (Let it be Sabbath)
Yontev zol zayn, (Let it be Yontev)
Sholem zol zayn, (Let it be peace)
Sholem oyf der gantsen velt. (Peace on the whole world.)
