Program Notes
A Mass for Sranan for mixed choir
During my first stay in Surinam, a former colony of the Netherlands, I wrote this Mass for a youth church choir in a poor region of Paramaribo. This first version was for one voice accompanied by guitar and drums.
The mass has five parts: Tak' sondoe, Gloria, Offerande Singi, Sing Santa, Na Lam foe Gado.
Back in the Netherlands, I rewrote the mass for four parts women's choir. Because at that time I directed women's choir Wievensanck. We performed the mass several times. For example on the 4th of january 1994 in the Doopsgezinde Kerk in Amsterdam.
Now I produced a third version, this time for 4 part mixed choir, in the hope to find more choirs that find it worthwhile to bring this music to their church.
