blues for low wind quintet (Bsn1/2, Bcl., Bsax., en BTbn.)
In 2007, the bassoonist Jozsef Auer asked if I would write a piece for the bassoon quintet of the Brabants Orchestra. This became "The Blue Bassoon", basically an ordinary blues in a funky style with a quiet middle section. In the funk section, the main aspects are the complementary rhythms and the parallel harmonies in the upper voices. In the slow movement, a theme unfolds above an accompaniment of quint stacks. I later adapted this work for two bassoons, bass clarinet, baritone saxophone and bass trombone. And that has become this version.
