homage to Ennio Morricone
In 2009 the Concert Band "Concordia" from Berkel-Enschot was 75 years old. For this anniversary, the Band wanted to have new work from approximately 20 minutes. I decided to write a theme with variations, so the different parts of the piece could also be played separately. Each of the five variations is a homage to a well-known composer. In Var. III I tried to match the style of the film composer Ennio Morricone. The name of the piece is based on the village name Berkel-Enschot. Berkel comes from the word berkeloo that means birch forest. A Silver Birch is the usual name for a birch.
