The ballad Requiem for Astor is a solo piece for flugelhorn with Fanfare Orchestra. It can be used as a feature for an external jazz soloist (flugelhorn, trumpet, soprano sax, or tenor sax). Optional parts for an external rhythm section (keyboard, guitar, bass and drums) are provided. Nice piece for a special occasion, such as an anniversary concert, a cross-over concert, or a workshop about improvisation.
Astor Piazzolla's music has all ingredients which music so attractive: passion, rhythm, beautufl melodies, nice harmonies and unexpected effects. The composition Requiem for Astor honours the legacy of Argentina's most famous bandoneon player and composer in the 'nuevo tango' style.
After a rather bombastic and sad intro, some shrill chords introduce the warm and melancholic melody. After the melody there is an occasion for an improvisation, but there is also a written out solo available. After a short and slow 'marche funebre' the final chord of the piece leaves us behind with questions.
