Prayer and Dance of the Derwish monks - 4-stemmige versie met percussie

About the 4-part arrangement:

Discover the joy of playing together in al small ensemble. Practice 'Prayer nad Dance' in this easier arrangement for 4 wind players and optional percussion, before playing it with your complete orchestra. This 4 part version can be played by any wind ensemble. The soprano voice is available in a high version (woodwinds) and a low version (brass). For example saxophone-quartet, clarinet-choir, brass-ensemble, small-Brass Band, etc.

About the composition:

The dancing Derwish from the soefi culture are the inspiration for this composition. After an Arabic sounding intro, there is an optional improvisation part. One or more players can improvise their prayer. Eastern percussion instruments embellish the improvisation part providing an arabic and spiritual atmosphere.

After the prayer you hear an exciting dance. In this fast part an 11/8 and 12/8 alternate, the 12/8 being played in the common way and in the flamenco subdivsion. Towards the end, we hear a Balkan celebration. The piece ends with an accelatering dance causing us into trance, just like the dancing Derwish monks.
