Brass Ensemble and Percussion
'Fanfare for the New Commander' was commissioned by the Ministry of Defense for the transfer of command of the Dutch Armed Forces on Thursday, June 28, 2012, during which General Peter van Uhm transferred the command to General Tom Middendorp. The ceremony took place with great ceremony at the Binnenhof in The Hague. During the official handover, the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, conducted by Major Peter Bongaerts, played en premiered 'Fanfare for the New Commander'.
Especially for a new transfer of command on April 15, 2021, Joop van Dijk created a new instrumentation of his composition for brass ensemble and percussion. During the 2021 transfer of command, Admiral Rob Bauer transferred the command to Lieutenant General Onno Eichelsheim. During this official transfer, brass players and percussionists from the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, conducted by Major Arjan Tien, played and premiered this new version of 'Fanfare for the New Commander' in the Ridderzaal at the Binnenhof in The Hague.
