Summery work with lyrical melodies and infectious African rhythms
"Children of the Sun" was written in 2019 on behalf of the Summer Orchestra Netherlands Foundation (ZON) and was made possible in part by Musidesk Rijnbrink. In 2002 I met my girlfriend Marjanne at the "ZON" and in 2009 and 2011 our children were born, Keetje and Okke. So they are so-called "ZON" kids (sun-kids). This piece of music pays homage to them.
As an annonce for their births we (together with my brother Than) made a song as a way of birth announcement. These two songs form the basis of this work. The work also has a third theme. This is African oriented, which on the one hand emphasizes the sunny character of the "ZON", but also symbolizes our joy at the births of Keetje and Okke.
NB. "Okke's Theme" is partly based on a song by Paul McCartney, "English Tea".
