Traditional Wind Quintet
Bib-Rambla is an original work for wind quintet inspired by the vibrant and luminous atmosphere of southern Spain.
Written in an expanded tonal language with influences from the Spanish style, and throughout its 5' duration, it combines melodic lyricism with highly energetic rhythmic sections, evoking the dynamism and color of a lively, bustling square.
The piece is structured in ABA form with an introduction and explores sonorities that evoke the cultural heritage of Granada, especially its Andalusí legacy. It employs modal colors (Aeolian, Phrygian, and Ionian), which lend the music distinctly Spanish nuances and provide expressive variety to the musical discourse. It also integrates a melodic reference to the romance “Qu’es de ti, desconsolado” by Juan del Encina, incorporated organically into the musical texture.
Of advanced/upper-level difficulty, the work requires technical control and refined phrasing, sound balance, rhythmic precision, and sophisticated chamber music collaboration. It is well suited for concert repertoire, chamber music programs, auditions, examinations, and advanced contemporary repertoire programs with a strong stylistic identity.
