Quintet for Brass or other instruments
The present Ricercar is originally an organ composition. Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706), born in Nuremberg, was a composer and organist. He also received his first musical training in Nuremberg. From 1673, he was organist at St. Stephan in Vienna, then in Eisenach (where he was related to the family of Johann Sebastian Bach), Erfurt, Stuttgart, Gotha and (from 1695) again in Nuremberg. Pachelbel was one of the most important organists of his time. His organ works combined the vocal, virtuoso South German style with the Central German contrapunctal forms based on the cantus firmus. His work had a decisive influence on Bachs compositions.
