Short quintet piece about Bachs first prelude of "The Well-Tempered Clavier"
This short quintet piece is based on J. S. Bachs first prelude from „The Well-Tempered Clavier“. Inspired by Gounods „Ave Maria“, a melody was added to the harmonies to create a solo piece for tuba. At the end, the soloist is allowed to improvise a cadenza that should lead into the final chord. There are no stylistic guidelines here, although it makes sense to give the solo a Latin feel and use a 3+3+2 rhythmic structure. The length of the improvisation is arbitrary, but should be in proportion to the length of the piece.
Unfortunately, the humour of the title is only apparent in German: JohSeb naturally refers to Bach. Tubist is a play on words based on du bist (you are). The title refers to the beginning of the Christian prayer „Our Father, who art in heaven“; in German „Vater unser, der du bist im Himmel“ (Any form of disrespect is alien to me and I hope that it will not be taken as such!)
The composition was written for brass quintet, but can be performed by a wide variety of ensembles.
