Program Notes
An exploration in the possibilities of a string quartet
It took me a lot of work to bring these pieces up to date. But here they are:
Part 1 from 1998 asks for a mature ensemble with enough experience with modern music. It pares a complex rithmic texture with undefined tonality.
Part 2 to 4 from 2010 form a unity: between the parts there is a dramatic line: from 1. tranquility to 2. lyrical breath to 3. rithmic energy.
Part 5 Turkish delight from 2013 is an impression from a vacation in Turkey. Is technically less demanding. It has a folcloristic flavour, plays with variation between arco and pizzicato.
part 6: Waltz for wallflower is an adaptation for string quartet of an piece I composed in 2013 for small symphonic orchestra. The result is an elegant light classical piece.of music
part 7. Autumn Sadness from 2025 is a melancholic contemplative piece. Almost minimalistic with short melodic gestures.
