A richly expressive work, ROMANZE features lyrical melodies, unpredictable harmonic movement, and a bit of fireworks.
Romanze grew out of an interest I have in exploring and adapting historical forms, in this case the 19th century romance. The first part of the piece is marked molto flessibile ed espressivo, featuring lyrical melodies and unpredictable harmonic movement, encouraging the pianist to explore different colors of tone and emotion. The second section becomes more passionate with visceral harmonies and an aggressive playing style. Romanze closes with a brief, but sweet reprise of the opening.
