Fanfare orchestra, from the opera Mlada
Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov was a Russian composer who lived from 1844 until 1908. In 1892, the opera Mlada was produced. The story is quite complicated and the Procession of the Nobles, the instrumental opening of the second act, is the only fragment still performed as a stand-alone piece. The structure of this piece is especially suited for advanced fanfare orchestras, as fanfaresque motives, technical passages and gentler themes are all present.
