3. TRAFFIC JAM
Traffic is at a standstill. Cars are lining up everywhere. Some drivers are impatient and react by honking. Other drivers dream away for a while and forget about everyday worries. But then the traffic jam dissolves and traffic picks up. Do I hear echoes of honking there?
These 12 preludes for piano were composed in the summer of 2024.
Each short composition (never longer than two minutes) is based on a single everyday fait event, mostly linked to ideas that arose during cycling trips.
A number of titles therefore also refer to familiar situations and images related to traffic.
The aim was to create the musical translation of a single image or feeling, rendered as a tone painting. Each piece is, in a way, a small piece of programmatic music with a suggestive title.
Each composition is compact, clear and accessible. The challenge for the performer lies in delivering nuanced articulation, contrasting dynamics and immersing themselves in the different characters.
