Short story for narrator and orchestra (English & Dutch text)

The literal meaning of “Wu Wei” is: "Doing By Not Doing".

The Paradoxical Concept of “Wei Wu Wei,” – “Doing By Not Doing” – or “Act By Not Acting” means non-acting against the nature of things or acting without attachment to the result.The ultimate goal of "Wu Wei" is to strive for a balanced situation and thus, imperceptibly, to come into harmony with oneself, others, the environment and ultimately life itself.

* Part 1, "Meeting With The Sage Of Shien Shan"

In this, the music gives voice to the emotion that the narrator experiences when, after a long search, he intuitively feels that he has finally met the right person: The Sage of Shien Shan.

* Part 2, "Tao, Love And The Essence"

The everyday life in which we have to deal with all the dualities of life that confuse us and seem so contradictory to each other.The Sage shows that it is not circumstances in themselves that determine our mood, but that it is the way we look at them to come to the understanding that what seems contradictory can actually complement each other.

* Part 3

"The Natural Flow - In Honor Of The Great Master"

This part is about the parallel between the Sage who lives in harmony with the natural course of life and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in which every note is flawlessly in its right place, in harmony with the greater whole.

Man is subject to the laws of nature and of life.

But despite these limitations, he manages to express his creativity.

So is Bach's music.

Subject to the limitations and laws of eighteenth-century counterpoint, these limitations were precisely the starting point and inspiration for Bach's immense creative powers.

In this way, his musical language and craftsmanship fit perfectly with the story of the Wise and his pupil.
