SHARDS! was commissioned by Chr. Brassband Pro Rege Heerenveen as opening work for the WMC World Brass Band Championships 2017.
A shard of glass has a hard surface that reflects light. It can refract light and give a kaleidoscopic effect, but the edge can also be razor sharp. The musical language in this work represents these hard, sharp and kaleidoscopic elements of shards of glass.
