Biography Pieter Rynja (Amsterdam 1954) Studied organ at the former Amsterdam Conservatory with Simon C. Jansen. At the theoretical department he chose to specialize in 20th century music and was trained in this by among others Wim de Ruiter and Daan Manneke. Successively obtained his Bachelor's degree in organ with Hans van Nieuwkoop (1979), Bachelor harpsichord with Jaap Spigt (1980) at the Alkmaar Conservatory and in 1982 Master harpsichord at the Brabant Conservatory in Tilburg. Took courses with organist Monika Henking (rhetoric at J.S.Bach), composer/harpsichordist Jukka Tiensuu (contemporary harpsichord music) and a masterclass with organist/harpsichordist Mireille lagace. In 1981-'82 and 1992-'93 he successively obtained the Methodiek certificates electronic organ and Keyboard/synthesizer at the Alkmaar Conservatory and in 1995-'96 the certificate Heterogene Ensembles at the LOKV in Utrecht. He also participated in various workshops, such as the International Composers Workshop Gaudeamus (1990) and took a course with composer Clarence Barlow in 1992.

From 1979 to 2019 he taught church organ, electronic organ, harpsichord, keyboard/synthesizer, piano (including LM), also ensemble conducting and theory lessons at, among others, music schools in Amsterdam, Opmeer and Heiloo. Works as a private teacher, composer and performer, played/plays in very diverse ensembles, from Medieval music (Studio Laren), Baroque (including Delta Baroque Trio, Philomuse, l'Age Classique, FerroForte, Alkmaars Muziekcollege, Basson Continuo), opera (Stichting KamerOpera Nederland) to contemporary music (including GAP "even"). In addition, he is working as a church organist, pianist and private tutor accompanying choirs, among others. Gave/gives organ and harpsichord concerts in the Netherlands and abroad (e.g. in England, Wales, Germany, Luxembourg, Hungary, Slovakia).

Since 1982 he has been working on multidisciplinary projects with some regularity, in which the relationship music-text-visual art is central. Since 1986 he gives improvisation/composition workshops and courses "Orientation contemporary
music from 1900", which pays ample attention to the relationship between the visual arts and western art music. 
In the early 1990s, he converted this course into a simple one version that is suitable for the upper years of primary education and presented it at various schools. In the 1980s and 1990s he taught 20th century music history to students of the (then) state exam music education. Since 2003 he also offers these lessons as a 10-week course. In 1984 he was admitted to the GeNeCo, the Society of Dutch Composers, nowadays Nieuw Geneco, and has been a working member of the KCB, Artists Center in Bergen since 1993.

Is werkzaam als privé docent, componist en uitvoerend musicus, speelde/speelt in zeer uiteenlopende ensembles, van Middeleeuwse muziek (Studio Laren), Barok (o.a. Delta Baroktrio, Philomuse, l’Age Classique, FerroForte, Alkmaars Muziekcollege, Basson Continuo), opera (Stichting KamerOpera Nederland) tot hedendaagse muziek (o.a. GAP ”even”). Daarnaast is hij ook werkzaam als kerkorganist, pianist en repetitor bij het begeleiden van o.a. koren. Gaf/geeft orgel-en klavecimbelconcerten in binnen-en buitenland (o.a. in Engeland, Wales, Duitsland, Luxemburg, Hongarije, Slowakije).

Sinds 1982 werkt hij met enige regelmaat aan multidisciplinaire projecten, waarbij de relatie muziek-tekst-beeldende kunst centraal staat. Hij geeft vanaf 1986 improvisatie/compositie-workshops en cursussen "Oriëntatie eigentijdse muziek vanaf 1900", waarin ruim aandacht wordt besteed aan de relatie tussen de beeldende kunst en de westerse kunstmuziek. 
In het begin van de jaren '90 van de vorige eeuw werkte hij deze cursus om tot een eenvoudige versie die geschikt is voor de bovenbouw van het Basisonderwijs en presenteerde deze op diverse scholen. In de jaren '80-'90 gaf hij muziekgeschiedenis 20e eeuw aan studenten van de (toenmalige) opleiding Staatsexamen muziek. Sinds 2003 biedt hij deze lessen ook als cursus van 10 weken aan. 
In 1984 werd hij toegelaten tot het GeNeCo, het Genootschap van Nederlandse Componisten, tegenwoordig Nieuw Geneco, en is sinds 1993 werkend lid van het KCB, Kunstenaars Centrum Bergen.
