Biography
He attended secondary school at the Heilig-Hartcollege in Heist-op-den-Berg. He took violin lessons from Joseph Luyten and chamber music lessons from Florent Van de Vondel and Marc Tooten at the local Municipal Music Academy. He obtained his final diploma in harmony from Jan Van der Roost.
At the age of eighteen, he continued his studies at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. He obtained laureate diplomas in violin and chamber music, as well as a higher diploma in violin. His teachers included Joseph Luyten, Patrick Peire and Roel Dieltiens, among others. He won first prize in harmony under Marc Van Cleemput and studied counterpoint with Kurt Bikkembergs.
From 1995 to 2005, he was a violinist with the Marcato Piano Quartet, performing on the most important Flemish stages. He premiered numerous works dedicated to the quartet by Flemish composers, including piano quartets by Frédéric Devreese, Jan Van Landeghem, Kurt Bikkembergs, André Laporte, Frits Celis, Erika Budai, Dirk De Nef and Marcel De Jonghe. He also recorded two CDs with this ensemble: René Gailly CD87177 and Et'cetera KTC1267.
From 2012 to 2021, he was a violinist with the Collegium Instrumentale Brugense conducted by Patrick Peire, which later became the Kamerorkest Brugge conducted by Ning Kam.
He currently teaches violin, group music-making, creation and scoring, music theory and composition at the music academy in Heist-op-den-Berg.
He is also a violinist with Prima La Musica, conducted by Dirk Brossé.
Alongside Dirk Lippens, Dirk Vermeulen and Jan Matthé, he is a member of the QDL string quartet, which primarily performs music by Bach, Mozart and Haydn.
He has performed in China, Germany, France, Hungary, Japan and the Netherlands with renowned musicians such as José Van Dam, Barbara Hendrickx, Ning Kam, Lorenzo Gatto, Pieter Wispelwey, Emanuelle Bertrand, Eliane Rodrigues, Natalia Gutman, Marie Hallynck and Jef Neve, and with conductors such as Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Dirk Vermeulen, Leo Hussain, David Angus, Dirk Brossé and Ivan Meylemans.

Volgde secundair onderwijs aan het Heilig-Hartcollege in Heist-op-den-Berg.
Aan de plaatselijke Gemeentelijke Muziekacademie kreeg hij vioolles van Joseph Luyten en kamermuziek van Florent Van de Vondel en Marc Tooten. Bij Jan Van der Roost behaalde hij het einddiploma harmonie.
Dirk ging op zijn achttiende verder studeren aan het Lemmensinstituut in Leuven. Hij behaalde de Laureaatsdiploma’s voor viool en kamermuziek, en het Hoger Diploma voor viool. Hij kreeg vioolles van Joseph Luyten, kamermuziek van o.a. Joseph Luyten, Patrick Peire en Roel Dieltiens; bij Marc Van Cleemput behaalde hij een eerste prijs Harmonie, contrapunt volgde hij bij Kurt Bikkembergs.
Van 1995 tot 2005 was Dirk violist van het Pianokwartet Marcato, waarmee hij op de belangrijkste Vlaamse podia concerteerde.
Met dit kwartet creëerde hij talloze werken van Vlaamse componisten die aan het kwartet werden opgedragen: pianokwartetten van Frédéric Devreese, Jan Van Landeghem, Kurt Bikkembergs, André Laporte, Frits Celis, Erika Budai, Dirk De Nef en Marcel De Jonghe.
Met dit ensemble nam hij ook twee CD's op (René Gailly CD87177 en Et'cetera KTC1267).
Van 2012 tot 2021 was hij violist bij het Collegium Instrumentale Brugense o.l.v. Patrick Peire, wat daarna het Kamerorkest Brugge werd o.l.v. Ning Kam.
Momenteel is hij als leerkracht verbonden aan de muziekacademie van Heist-op-den-Berg: hij geeft er viool, groepsmusiceren, creatie en score, muziektheorie en compositie.
Daarnaast is hij violist bij Prima La Musica o.l.v. Dirk Brossé.
Samen met Dirk Lippens, Dirk Vermeulen en Jan Matthé vormt hij het QDL-strijkkwartet, dat zich voornamelijk toelegt op muziek van Bach, Mozart en Haydn.
Hij concerteerde in China, Duitsland, Frankrijk, Hongarije, Japan en Nederland; met grote vertolkers zoals oa José Van Dam, Barbara Hendrickx, Ning Kam, Lorenzo Gatto, Pieter Wispelwey, Emanuelle Bertrand, Eliane Rodrigues, Natalia Gutman, Marie Hallynck en Jef Neve; en met dirigenten als Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Dirk Vermeulen, Leo Hussain, David Angus, Dirk Brossé en Ivan Meylemans.
