Biography

ENGLISH

The love for wind music was, as it were, born to me: my parents both played a wind instrument (mother cornet and father trumpet), as did my grandfather (saxophone) and my aunt (bugle). When I was 7 years old, I started playing the bugle at the local music association Concordia in Krabbendijke. I received my first bugle lessons from my mother. At the age of 8 I was taught at the Zeeuwse Muziekschool, and soon afterwards I made the switch to the baritone and later the euphonium. At first I didn't feel good about that, playing the bugle was my big dream!
But soon enough my euphonium became my best friend, my support and anchor. I wanted nothing more than to make music in my spare time, whether I was angry or sad or very happy, music was (and is!) always great!

At the age of 12 I was allowed to play solo with the Gelders Fanfare Orchestra. The enthusiasm with which conductor Tijmen Botma accompanied both the orchestra and me during the preparation made me sure: I wanted to become a conductor and music teacher later.
I continued studying diligently and two years later I started the preparatory education of the then Brabant Conservatory (now Fontys Conservatory). In 2003 I started the euphonium course with Piet Joris and from 2004 I studied wind band conducting with Hardy Mertens. Since 2007 I can call myself Bachelor of Music in the field of euphonium (teaching), and as a conductor I graduated as a Master of Music at the Alliantie Kunsten Fontys and Zuyd since June 2009. Since May 2013 I have settled in the Breda area. I have been composing and arranging regularly since I started studying HAFA management!
