'Intercession' for Solo Flute

This work was written in 2024 and is dedicated to Anna Kondrashina who gave its world premiere at that year’s Corvedale Festival. It is cast in a single movement. As the title implies, the work is designed to be ‘prayerful’ – Intercessions being prayers made on behalf of other people and situations. The work’s opening has a contemplative and mysterious mood but there is a more animated and perhaps agitated section following this – there is sometimes a spiritual tension in prayer – before the quieter, more contemplative mood returns for the concluding passage.
