Standard Concert Band Orchestration
The Rose Hora is dedicated to the Tyler (Texas) Community Band. The inspiration for this piece is a visit to the band in the summer of 2023, in which I (the composer) was very graciously welcomed by the band. I also had a chance to witness the nourishing attitude of kindness and care that the band has shown one another and their community. They remain a beacon in my memory as heroes to cherish and emulate. The piece is named for Tyler being considered the “Rose Capital”, with the piece’s Hora rhythm underpinnings. The Hora is a dance form in 3/4 (or 3/8) metre, with the first and third beats of a bar emphasized, perhaps in a lull or sway fashion.
