Jean Musy - Grand Prix SACEM 2016 of the Music for the image
More than a composer Jean Musy is a true film director

Jean Musy is born in France in 1947. He starts playing piano on his own, just listening to the radio, at 3 years old. He is a full autodidact. At the age of 7, he debuted as a pianist/accompanist for some of the major artists of the time, on Jean Nohain's Radio Luxembourg broadcasts. At 16, he formed the Jean Musy Orchestra. Under this name, he recorded his first albums, which were released by WEA. When Joe Dassin's arranger, Joe Arthey, fell ill, Jean Musy replaced him at short notice. Taking on the role of arranger in 48 hours, the immense success of his first song for Dassin, "Les Champs-Elysées," quickly brought him renown.
For 20 years, he worked with top artists, creating arrangements, conducting orchestras and playing piano. Jean Musy also recorded several of his own records. Over 1,000 singles and 200 albums bear his signature and he is often presented as THE specialist in composition for strings. His meeting with Francis Lai and their long association gradually led him into composing music for the cinema. Here as well, he rubbed shoulders with top names, in both cinema and television. Jean Musy has over 200 films to his credit.

Creating original concepts : My Cinema Without Image
Till 2013, Anne Marie David – his friend for years - has created this new concept on Jean Musy’s original creations. This experimental concept is based on a performance by Jean Musy, who has truly recreated the atmosphere of a film, featuring texts from Stefan Zweig's short stories read invoice over by actors and sequenced like a movie, to which headded sound effects that follow the action. The show is borne by expressive symphonic music that reveals all the emotional power of the text. The audience experiences this "film without image" in total darkness, without any visual component. It is a novel approach to literature: reading it, perceiving it, feeling it. In 1974, the audience at the Avignon Festival unanimously praised this concept !
SACEM, The Union of Music Films composers, the French Federation for the Blind and the Alliance Française support "My Cinema Without Image". Official partner of several film festivals, the concept has received the support of the French “Secretariat d’état au Handicap” and will start a cooperation with UNESCO through education programs on the film “Louis Braille, child of light” English translation of its French Version. After the Spanish version a Dutch version will exist.

“EDMUND the legend of a King” - Jean Musy’s new challenge.
This Oratorio is written for soloists – choir and symphony Orchestra on Anne-Marie DAVID’ libretto. The story is based on the real dramatic destiny of King EDMUND – and English King, Saint and Martyr of the 9th century.
Both English and French versions exist with Latin choir parts. After 2 shows in France in 2019 – this creation will be performed in UK possibly in 2023 or 2024. Regional creations and international creations are expected in the next future.

Jean Musy last releases are prayers and short pieces for Trios – Quattuors – Quintet etc…
Some of his music films have also been translated for Harmony Orchestras…

He is a quiet, endearing man. The unmistakable musical footprint that he has left for over than 50 years in the world of music has made him a prominent figure, with an exceptional reputation as a composer and musician that has marked his entire career. His fame extends far beyond the borders of France, and, as a matter of fact… he is never where you expect him to be !
