Biografie

Born in Mainz/Germany, Egbert Lewark studied music education, musicology, and political science in Mainz from 1974 to 1980, followed by advanced trumpet studies with Prof. H. Erb. From an early stage of his career he combined intensive pedagogical work with wide-ranging performance activities.

He taught trumpet at the Kreismusikschule Ludwigshafen and later for many years at the Städtische Musikschule Frankenthal, where he worked as a full-time teacher from 1982 to 2020. From 1992 to 1994 he also served as a part-time lecturer in trumpet at the Gesamthochschule Kassel. Between 2009 and 2020 he was conductor of the Stadtkapelle Frankenthal.
In addition to his formal education he pursued private studies with D. Tasa, E. H. Tarr, B. Nilsson and G. Beetz. During his studies he performed in various jazz ensembles and big bands and for several years was active in the field of dance music. He spent three years as first flugelhorn player in the Walter Scholz Orchestra.
A central focus of his artistic work has been historically informed performance practice. He founded several chamber music ensembles -most notably Splendid Brasswhich provided important artistic impulses. His concert activity includes extensive solo performances throughout a lot of European countries, as well as projects that bring together music with other art forms.
He has made numerous recordings for audio media, radio, and television and has inspired nearly 50 compositions, almost all of which have been premiered and some recorded for broadcast. In addition, he has worked as an arranger and editor, including of his own works, for publishers such as Schmid Blechbläsernoten, Edition Merseburger, BIM, Schott and Loosmann-Musik.
