NOTES - FANTASTIC DANCE opus 160 A
2015-2016

For a long time Marc van Delft did walk around with the idea to compose a work that would be in an exciting folkloric Dance- or ballet music style, such as Petrouchka by Strawinsky and especially the dance suite 'Estancia' by the Argentine composer Ginastera, one of his favourite works.

From this idea, the 1st part of the Dance suite was created.
The entire work consists of 3 parts
The first part, 'Dance', can also be performed as a separate work.

The horns and timpani play an important role in this work.
The piece has a quick alternation of short themes

Important is a theme with an emphasis on the wood in 6/8 or 12/8 time, with accompaniment by alternating tones in parallel quarters in the saxes in eighth movement in 4/4 time.

In addition, a number of themes / motifs with an emphasis on copper [especially the horns!] with the hemiolen-horn theme in a 3 /4 - 6 /8 measure as the main theme.

There is also an exciting "counter theme" of parallel fourth chords.
=============================================
The successful 1st performance of the Dance suite took place on July 20, 2017 in Vredenburg-Utrecht, during the WASBE conference, by st. Michael from Thorn, conducted by Ivan Meylemans.

The first part as separate work was then also performed 3 times, including 2 times in the USA by two university orchestras.
